bottle feed kittenIt takes a lot of work to care for kittens depending on their age, if the kitten is very young, under 3 weeks, you might find yourself having to bottle feed the kitten yourself. You are going to need special formula and a plastic bottle and nipple to feed the little one.  They will need to be fed every few hours, just like newborn babies so be prepared to do this.

If you are dealing with a newborn it is vital you keep him or her as warm as possible. One way of doing this is to use warm towels and blankets. A kittens' temperature should be between 95 degrees to 99 degrees.  If your kittens' temperature should fall below 94 degrees it can be fatal.

Be sure to keep an eye for any kind of pus around the eyes, ears, and nose, this could be a sign of an infection and you should consult your Vet immediately.

Your little kitten will probably only eat and sleep for the first few weeks, so there isn't a lot to do but to keep your new kitten warm and fed regularly.

As your kitten grows, it will require more of your attention and want to start to play and explore more, this is when you need to keep an eye on him or her so they don't hurt themselves. Be sure to keep your new kitten in a safe area, so when they do start to wonder they won't get into anything harmful.

During the first six weeks, it is important to keep your kitten clean and free of any type of dirt. During these weeks he or she is very vulnerable to infections and getting fleas.

Kittens between 9 to 14 weeks will begin to start to open their eyes and begin to hear, this will also make them more curious to their surroundings.  Even though at this stage their eyes are open, they still can not see very well and will have problems getting around.

You should have a Vet close just in case there is any kind of emergency and you need assistance right a way.
Kittens should receive their first set of shots at the age of 8 weeks old, then their second set of shots about 3 to 4 weeks later. You should also have your kitten checked for worms and fleas around 8 weeks old.

The most important part of all is love your new kitten and follow these and other simple steps to ensure you are raising a healthy and happy kitten. There is a lot of great information out there, so do your research and make sure you are caring for your kitten right.
